01

What this solar subsidy estimate includes

The calculator combines your electricity use with an editable state solar-yield assumption. It recommends a practical system size, applies the central residential subsidy slab and compares estimated generation with the electricity you currently use.

  • Gross cost using your chosen cost per kW
  • Central subsidy for an eligible residential household
  • Monthly and annual bill savings before financing costs
  • Simple payback and approximate shadow-free roof area
02

Use your latest electricity bill

Enter monthly units when possible. Units are more useful than bill value because bills can include fixed charges, duties, slab rates and arrears that rooftop generation may not offset. If you only know the bill amount, the calculator estimates units using the tariff entered or the editable state default.

  • Check the billed units or kWh on a recent bill
  • Use a 12-month average if summer and winter use differ
  • Replace the default tariff with an effective energy rate if known
03

Why the final quote can differ

An installer quote depends on module and inverter specifications, mounting structure, cabling distance, earthing, approvals and site conditions. The subsidy is also subject to eligibility, process and vendor requirements. Treat this result as a comparison baseline, not a guaranteed price or sanction.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers, with the important caveats left in.

How much subsidy can I get for rooftop solar in India?

The default central estimate is ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and a maximum ₹78,000 for 3 kW or more for an eligible residential household. Rules can change, so verify before applying.

Is the subsidy available for commercial buildings?

The PM Surya Ghar residential central subsidy should not be assumed for a commercial premise. The calculator shows zero central subsidy and a warning when commercial is selected.

Can I get extra central subsidy above 3 kW?

Under the default rule table, the central subsidy is capped at ₹78,000 and does not increase for capacity above 3 kW.

How accurate is this calculator?

It is a planning estimate based on the values you enter, a state-level solar-yield assumption and the published central subsidy slabs. Shade, roof direction, equipment performance, local tariff design and approval rules can materially change the real outcome.

Is this website official?

No. This is an independent calculator and is not affiliated with the Government of India, MNRE, PM Surya Ghar or any DISCOM. Verify eligibility and subsidy amounts on the official portal and with your DISCOM.
